Wedding Program Wording

back to main categories
Structure of the wedding program
A wedding program can be as detailed or as simple as you would like, depending on the formality and style of your wedding, and depending on whether or not you are having a religious ceremony. In most cases, the wedding program (or 'Order of Service') is typically made up of four parts: the introduction, the ceremony order, the wedding party and the closure or special note.

Introduction:
Usually on the front cover, the introduction would include the names of the bride and groom, the day and date of the ceremony and the location.

Ceremony Order:
For religious and secular ceremonies alike, it's important to let guests know what's happening by briefly explaining traditions, rituals, and ethnic customs. Include an outline of the various segments of the ceremony such as the prelude, seating, vows, readings, processional, etc. Ttitles of the musical pieces, readings and prayers can also be listed.

The Wedding Party:
List all participants in the wedding – the maid (or matron) of honor, bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girl(s), ring bearer, etc.

Special Note:
This section can be used to thank your guests (especially if they traveled a long way to attend) and those who are hosting the wedding. This is also the place to honor a deceased friend or member of the family. You can also end with a poem, quote or lyrics to a song that is especially meaningful to you.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU
Thank you to all of our friends and family,
we are sincerely grateful for your presence in our lives.
Thank you for joining us to celebrate our special day.

A gentle word like a spark of light,
Illuminates my soul
And as each sound goes deeper,
It's you that makes me whole
There is no corner, no dark place,
your love cannot fill
And if the world starts causing waves,
It's your devotion that makes them still

LOVE IS
Some people forget that love is
tucking you in and kissing you
"Good night"
no matter how young or old you are

Some people don't remember that
love is
listening and laughing and asking
questions
no matter what your age

Few recognize that love is
commitment, responsibility
no fun at all
unless

Love is
You and me

Sample 3: Non-Traditional
A non-traditional option would be to have an "order of the day" card or a program for the entire wedding day, outlining not only the ceremony but other details of the event. This would work well for a destination wedding.

From The Bride and Groom…
Thank you to all of our friends and family,
we are sincerely grateful for your presence in our lives.
Thank you for joining us to celebrate our special day.

My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,
together we shall go until we die. My, my, my.
An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look... see.

And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine,
We walk the miles.
Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one.
Happiness, no more be sad, happiness....I'm glad.

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.
