Classic Finds: Vintage Fans

May 7, 2010

Sarah from Classic Bride is back with us every Friday to share a few of her favorite finds, inspiration and ideas for chic, classic weddings. Here’s this week’s find:

vintage fans

Last week I divulged my growing crush on vintage alarm clocks … this week I’ll let you in on another: I’ve had a serious thing for vintage fans for as long as I can remember. I think it started with trips to my grandmother’s house before I even understood the concept of “vintage.” I would fall asleep to the peaceful hum and whir of an old metal fan and perhaps I’ve equated that sound with all of the love and happiness that existed under that house. Whatever the reason, I adore the graceful curves of the metal and the oftentimes pastel shades of the base and blades. My mother keeps an antique fan in her kitchen during for those hot Southern months and I have one in my office just to appreciate its beauty.

They emit such a friendly vibe and can easily stand alone as a piece of artwork, making them the perfect wedding accessory in my mind. I think they’d be beyond lovely placed around a long dining table for an outdoor summer wedding … a great vintage touch and a stylish way to cool off guests. ;o)

Classic Finds: Perfect Timing

April 30, 2010

Sarah from Classic Bride is back with us every Friday to share a few of her favorite finds, inspiration and ideas for chic, classic weddings. Here’s this week’s find:

vintage alarm clocks

I develop crushes on different collections of vintage ephemera like a 12-year-old girl does with boy bands. And right now I am crushing hard on vintage clocks – specifically alarm or travel clocks … their retro curves and sensible designs are irresistible to me. I love grouping three of varying sizes together and placing them in unexpected spots – the guest bathroom, the kitchen, a random bookshelf, you get the idea …

And I think they would be a delicious accent for a wedding. While they certainly offer up a more-than-suitable flair for an Alice in Wonderland-inspired soiree, I think they’d make for a fantastic touch at a wedding with any theme {or no theme at all} … Time ties us all together and you could easily create a mini-theme by setting the clocks to a certain meaningful time – maybe the moment your groom proposed to you or the moment you first kissed … any time that holds a special meaning would be just perfect. I think the miniature clocks would look divine clustered together or scattered throughout floral centerpieces. And if you’re in love with that blue charmer, he can be all yours as he’s for sale in my shop – just click here for details.

Classic Finds: Cupid Love

April 23, 2010

Sarah from Classic Bride is back with us every Friday to share a few of her favorite finds, inspiration and ideas for chic, classic weddings. Here’s this week’s find:

wedding inspiration: cupid

The popularity of Cupid inevitably surges around Valentine’s Day but I think the concept is too irresistible to only celebrate once a year. I think it would make a darling theme for a spring, summer, fall or winter wedding … love the idea of incorporating a bow and arrow and angel wings in a photo shoot … or pinning that cute bow + arrow brooch on the bride’s sash, clutch or even the back of her heel for a whimsical touch.

You could use vintage Valentine’s as the escort cards and have a themed candy buffet with conversation hearts and red rock-candy lollipops to further create a nostalgic vibe.

Guest: Darci from With This Ring :: Timeless Weddings

April 13, 2010

Hello, again!  It’s Darci from With This Ring, back with a little wedding inspiration.  Last time I discussed trends and how great it is to see a couple make a current trend their own, but there is also something to be said for timeless weddings.  Three of my favorites are pictured here – Audrey, Jackie and Grace all had very different weddings, but each were uniquely beautiful.  I love that you can look back on their photos today and still find them classic and inspiring, and it would be wonderful to hear your grandchildren someday say the same about your own wedding!
