This wedding is a great follow-up to Laura’s rainy day inspiration posted last week. Here’s proof that a little rain need not put a damper on your big day!
WEDDING DATE: May 15, 2010
LOCATION: Dahlonega, Georgia
CEREMONY + RECEPTION: Wolf Mountain Vineyards
PHOTOGRAPHER: W. Scott Chester
FLOWERS BY: La Petite Fleur
GOWN: Harmony by Watters
BRIDESMAID DRESSES: Silk Chiffon Sophia Dresses in ‘Tropical Aqua’ by J. Crew
GROOM’S TUX OR MENSWEAR BY: Calvin Klein
STATIONERY: Liv invitation suite
WHY DID ASHLEY CHOOSE THIS INVITATION?: Since our wedding was in a vineyard, I wanted a really romantic, nature inspired invitation. I immediately fell in love with the Liv design!
ASHLEY’S FAVORITE WEDDING DETAIL: The vineyard and the thunderstorms! The storms made everything so dramatic, and it was really beautiful when the clouds lifted and the rain stopped for a few moments and there was mist everywhere. It reminded me of my favorite Jane Austen novel (Pride & Prejudice). I also loved my flowers, I couldn’t stop smelling them all night! (Peonies)!
ASHLEY’S MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT: The ceremony was really beautiful, and dramatic with all of the rain and thunder, but I would have to say dancing and laughing at the reception with my new husband and all of our friends. It was such a fun night!

I would venture to guess that 99.9% of brides would prefer it not rain on their wedding day, even though some people will argue that it’s good luck. I recently stood up to a wedding back home, and we made it most of the way through the outdoor (covered) reception before the dark clouds moved in and the torrential rains started. By that point in sweltering summer evening, it was perfect. Nobody minded getting a little soggy as they dashed from one tent to the next, and no one wanted to leave during the downpour – which kept the party going well into the evening. Maybe I just miss the summer thunderstorms, we get plenty of rain in Hawaii but I’ve yet to witness thunder and lightening. Whatever the case, I am totally inspired by these rainy day images. Why let the weather ruin your day? I love how these couples embraced it with galoshes, umbrellas, and smiles on their faces.
Be sure to click the source links – most of these had too many great rainy day photos to choose from. You might also take a look at Bella Umbrella. They have a huge selection of umbrellas and parasols for rent – I had some as back up for our wedding party in case it rained. We didn’t end up using them, but they were lovely nonetheless… and their pagoda styles look so great in photos, rain or shine!
