More Owls

January 13, 2011

Did you see Candice’s post earlier today? I’m totally on the same page with her about owls (or woodsies as she calls them). Despite the slight creepy-ness of actual owls, I quite adore their cute, artsy counterparts. Just wanted to keep the theme going and share a few of my favorite ‘woodsie’ finds…

Ladies of Wonderland

March 26, 2010

I love these photos of Helena Bonham Carter featured on the Guardian UK website last month. That mad hat and that ruffled trench are both fabulous!

By the way, after mentioning my desire to see Alice in Wonderland a few weeks ago, I forgot to let you know that I did indeed take a trip down the rabbit hole. I saw it opening weekend and I loved it! It was just as quirky and visually stunning as I expected it would be. The Red Queen was the quirkiest of the lot and I thought Helena Bonham Carter played her to perfection. I also thought Anne Hathaway was quite hilarious as the White Queen with all her ridiculous sashay-ing around.

Here’s a peek at the impeccably-styled ladies of Wonderland…

I also couldn’t help but notice what a fashionista Alice was. All her outfits rocked… including this blue off-the-shoulder ruffled number above… sure beats the pale blue pinafore of Alices past, no?

If you’re in the mood to get swept away by a fairytale, definitely check out the movie… I think you’ll enjoy it! If you’ve seen it already, let me know what you think!

Project Valentine

February 12, 2009

I’ve been seeing lots of great valentine projects and ideas floating around the blog world over the past couple weeks. Here’s a roundup of a few of our favorite lovey-dovey DIY ideas.

It’s a box of candy – made of cake! This insanely creative project comes from the fun and fabulous blog Bakerella. This is pure cake genius. For more photos, a complete ‘how-to’ guide and recipe, see this post.

These sweet Valentine Heart Pins come from the creative minds over at Purl Bee. Such an adorable project! Check out the Purl Bee blog for a complete how-to guide.

I can’t think of a better thing to do for your sweetie pie than to make them a sweet pie! Complete with custom packaging! SO CUTE! This project comes from the super talented Kathleen over at Twig & Thistle. Be sure to check out this post for the apple pie recipe and a free template with instructions for the pie box!

These little Oreo Cakesters Hearts are a great idea Bakerella came up with. All you need is a box of Cakesters and a cutter. Now this is right up my alley: easy-peasy and oh so yummy!

If you feel like the Cakester Hearts are too much like cheating, you can always try these Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies. These require a little more effort but are still quite easy. Also from Bakerella.

We also spotted a few great valentine recipes from Better Homes and Gardens, seen in the images above…

For those less inclined to DIY (who just want to buy the darn thing and be done with it), Williams-Sonoma has a few great options: Sweetie Pies and Message Cookies.
