Invitation Inspiration: Bella

February 9, 2010

For the Bella invitation, I wanted to do something modern but also slightly retro. It might seem like a random collection of thoughts but white picket fences, simple eyelet detailing and 1950s mod style were on my mind when designing this invitation. These images really captured captured the feeling I was going for…

Invitation Inspiration: Emmy

February 5, 2010

I’ll leave you this week with another peek into what inspired one of this year’s new designs.

The idea for the new Emmy invitation was actually sparked by the Jeremy Lawson photo below (fourth row, on the right). It’s a simple image but the bold stripes on the awning combined with its scalloped edges made me think of using hard lines and soft details to create a design that would appeal to both the bride and groom. I wanted to create a design that was pretty, yet simple and strong.

Invitation Inspiration: Love Logo #21

January 29, 2010

Here’s another look at the thought process behind one of the new designs for 2010.

For this invite and Love Logo, I wanted to go with a royal academy vintage prep school look. When I was in school, we wore crisp white shirts, blue skirts (pants for the boys) and striped ties. I know most high school kids in the US don’t wear uniforms but it’s standard practice in Barbados (we picked up most of our habits from the Brits). When I saw these badges last year, I was so tickled because they totally reminded me of the Prefect badge I wore on my uniform.

Anyway, an idea was sparked and this is the inspiration board I came up with…

I’ll formally introduce the new invitation next week, I promise.

Tadaaaaa!

January 28, 2010

As I mentioned on Monday, I’ve been busy behind the scenes working on a new look for Flights of Fancy and I’m thrilled to finally be able to share it with you! What do you think? (By the way, if things look a bit wonky, just refresh a couple times…it should sort itself out).

I’ve re-organized the layout so that things are a bit easier to find. You can now easily browse by tags, archives or categories, all in the right column. Since the DIY downloads seem to be so popular, I plan to add a few more projects this year and they will all be within easy reach via a link in the far right column under ‘Noteworthy’.

If you’re in the wedding biz and you have a cool product or idea you’d like to share, I’ve added a new link (also under ‘Noteworthy’) where you can upload your images and send us a submission. I also figured a slightly fresher palette couldn’t hurt so I changed that too.

Take a moment to look around, check things out. I hope you like the new look!
