Formal Introduction: Ava

June 15, 2010

If you’re wondering how those seemingly random bits of inspiration worked their way into a design, well here’s the result. Meet Ava.

Although Ava’s no shrinking violet, the vintage styling is still a delicate hand with remarkable penmanship.

Invitation Inspiration: Ava

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been sitting on a few new designs for a while now. I plan to introduce most of them later this year but I couldn’t help but share just one more newbie for the summer.

This latest design kind of came about from a mixed bag of inspiration. I wanted to design something sweet and simple with a bit of a feminine, retro, romantic feel. On the other hand, I didn’t want it to be too simple. I’ve been noticing how popular cut paper art has become recently and I love all the delicate, intricate details in the work of artists like Julene Harrison so I also wanted to incorporate a detailed pattern somehow.

You’ll have to wait until this afternoon to see how the invitation turned out but for now, here’s a compilation of my thoughts and ideas:

One of the things I love most about having new designs photographed is preparing for the photo shoot. I LOVE the process of conceptualizing the shoot and shopping for the perfect props. The fact that I get to spend time brainstorming and working creatively with my photographer (and one of my favorite people!) is icing on the cake.

I am particularly in love with the details from this shoot so I decided to spotlight them here as well. Isn’t this calligraphy by MM Ink absolutely gorgeous?! I think the lettering reflects the “feel” of the invitation so well!

…and what about these beautiful fabric flowers by Emersonmade?  I thought they were pretty online but they’re even more beautiful in person!

Thanks so much to both of you for collaborating with me on this shoot!

Invitation Inspiration: Joy

This week, I have a few more exciting tidbits to share with you! I’ve had a couple new designs in the vault for several months and have only just recently had the time to have them photographed. Both designs feature fun, floral details and seem perfect for the summer so I figured now is as good a time as any to introduce them to you!

As usual, I first want to share a little of the inspiration behind the design. I imagined the first invitation being perfect for a cheerful summer wedding surrounded by beautiful blooms, pretty prints & pattern and lots of color:
