Nancy Liu Chin: Modest Chic

June 23, 2009

As you know, Nancy Liu Chin will be joining us every Tuesday this month to share her floral expertise…let’s see what tips and tidbits she has for us today…

simple, affordable wedding flowers

Sometimes when it comes to picking flowers, showy flowers such as garden roses, hydrangea, anemones, peonies and orchids get all the attention – yet I sometimes like it when couples choose modest flowers like the humble “spider” mum or cutesy “gerbera” daisies. Even though these flowers are often not as popular or desirable, when arranged with flair they can be ever as gracious and pretty.

{Here is a wedding Nancy designed incorporating Gerbera daisies in a chic way}:

When thinking about your wedding flowers, don’t forget our humble friends. Here is a list of some of my favorite “humble” flowers that are making a comeback:

Peruvian Lilies
Spider Mums
Gerbera daisies
Green Gladiolus
Sweet William

When in doubt, you can always put these modest blooms in tight clusters.

Organic Harvest

June 22, 2009

I love the idea of having a banquet feast on an organic farm that really celebrates amazing food and the farm’s natural beauty. Edible elements like artichokes could be combined with fresh-picked flowers for the centerpieces, or even a display of fresh produce surrounded by candles could look great on the table. With the right color palette and attention to details, this kind of wedding could be so chic…

A Little Eye Candy

June 19, 2009

….well, more like eye pastry (mmmm, paaaaastry!)…

Some of you might already be familiar with this blog but for those of your who aren’t, please let me introduce you to the wonderful world of Canelle et Vanille! I’ve been a big fan of Canelle et Vanille for quite some time now and I’m thrilled that Aran has given me permission to share some of her amazing photos with you. Aran is a food stylist and photographer – she creates amazing recipes and then photographs the finished goodies and posts the photos and recipes on her blog…how great is that?! Every single image on her blog is divinely delicious…a real treat for the senses.

Between the ogling and the drooling, it struck me – if you’re planning a laid-back, DIY wedding like this one or like thisCanelle et Vanille is a great recipe resource for home-made desserts, favors or even the cake! Enjoy!
