Color Predictions: Spring 2009

Every season, the fashion world is inspired by a new palette of colors and this palette usually dictates what we see in stores and what eventually become popular color combinations.

A couple months ago, the color forecasts for Spring 2009 were released (yes, there is such a thing) and here’s what the fashion and color experts say we should expect…

“Spring traditionally evokes a sense of freshness and new beginnings, with sprouting shoots and blossoming flowers that inspire designers to breakout of the winter doldrums. Bright colors return to the top 10 list for Spring ’09, as designers incorporate vibrant pops into their collections, yet temper the vibrancy with deeper, translucent or neutral tones.”

It seems as though yellow will continue to make its mark in Spring ’09 and slate gray will serve as a solid neutral. Rich colors like a deep fucshia and a classic blue make the top 10 list, along with softer colors like lavender, rose pink and a neutral beige with “subtle rose undertones”.

Our favorites in the forecast are the three greens. According to the experts, these tones perpetuate the idea of “freshness and renewal”. A citrus inspired green (no. 1 above) which we think is a really modern, chic shade; a bright, fun, blue-green hue (no. 2) and a perfect spring green (no. 3). Each of these colors can be paired with a great neutral like ivory, chocolate brown or even gray to create a beautiful, fresh wedding palette for the spring.

In the upcoming weeks, we will assemble a few wedding palettes based on these Spring 2009 colors as well as a few slightly more traditional favorites. Stay tuned!
